The sunset eclipse
A total solar eclipse will cross northern Spain (from Galicia to the Balearic Islands) just at sunset. It will be a historic event, with the Sun going completely dark near the horizon, abruptly turning the twilight into night.
The path of totality will pass through the following autonomous communities: Galicia, Asturias, Castilla y León, the Community of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Cantabria, La Rioja, the Basque Country, Navarra, Aragón, Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.

The eclipse of the century
On 2 August 2027, luck will strike again, this time in the south of the peninsula. This event is considered by the scientific community as the “Eclipse of the Century” due to its unusual maximum duration of up to six minutes.
In Spain, the path of totality shall cross the Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea. The south of Andalusia, especially the coast of Cadiz, Malaga, Granada and Almeria, as well as the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, will enjoy total darkness which, in some cases, will last more than 4 minutes, a time considerably longer than that of the eclipse of 2026.

The ring of fire
An annular eclipse will be seen from the peninsula from southwest to northeast and from the Balearic Islands. As the Moon does not cover the entire solar disc, an impressive bright "ring of fire" will form around the shape of the moon in the middle of winter.
Instead of total darkness, observers in the central path will see a spectacular 'ring of fire': a bright rim of sunlight surrounding the dark silhouette of the Moon. The path of annularity will cross the peninsula from south-west to north-east, passing, among other areas, through Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, the Community of Madrid, Aragón, the Valencian Community, Region of Murcia, and ending in the Balearic Islands and southern Catalonia.

About us
This platform is the official channel of the Trio the collegiate body created by the Spanish Government to guarantee a safe preparation, organisation and coordination for these events.
Reporting
This Commission reports to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, through the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, who chairs the collegiate body.
Mission Statement
Managing three consecutive major eclipses poses complex challenges in mobility, security and logistics. Therefore, our main task is to coordinate the action of the different public administrations in order to act jointly and proactively.
Our priority goals are:
- Science and education: Ensure the dissemination of accurate official information and promote interest in astronomy and space exploration.
- Health and safety: Plan civil protection arrangements, manage mass mobility of people and prevent public health risks during events.
- Tourism and Economy: Promote scientific tourism and boost local economies in the areas in which the eclipse is best seen.
A joint effort
lthough led by the Ministry of Science, the Commission integrates representatives from multiple key ministries (Transportation, Interior, Defence, Tourism, Education, Ecological Transition, among others) to provide a comprehensive response.
We also have the direct scientific advice of the country's leading astronomical institutions, including the National Astronomical Observatory, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía. We are also working in collaboration with the Scientific and Advisory Committee for the Trio of Eclipses.
