Aragon
Starlight Territory and the Double Sunset
If there is a region that has made its clean skies a mark of identity, it is Aragon. For the Trio of the Eclipse, the region plays a trump card: it offers radically opposite but equally spectacular scenery, from the peaks of the Pyrenees to the high plains of Teruel, guaranteeing a diversity of photographic landscapes that other regions of Europe have a hard time matching.
The main event will take place on 12 August 2026. Aragon will be at the heart of the path of totality, offering great views of the spectacular total eclipse which will occur when the Sun is very low, skimming the western horizon. This will allow for iconic images like the outline of the Basilica del Pilar in Zaragoza silhouetted against the stellar corona. The provinces of Zaragoza and Teruel, and the southern part of the province of Huesca will be in total shadow, turning the whole community into a giant observatory where dusk will come twice that day.
After a 'break' in 2027, when the eclipse will be partial (though very deep, with between 75% and 90% of the Sun obscured), Aragon will return to the world's front line of stargazing on 26 January 2028. While from the north of the region only a partial phase may be seen, the south, especially the province of Teruel (famous for its Starlight sky quality), will be crossed by the path of annularity. In the middle of winter, observers in Teruel will be able to see the perfect "ring of fire" just before the sun sets behind the hills, an event of fleeting, reddish beauty.
Summary of visibility
Total eclipse. Excellent visibility in the provinces of Zaragoza and Teruel, and in the south of the province of Huesca.
Very deep partial eclipse.
Annular Eclipse. The ring will be visible in the south of the community, with Teruel as a key observation point.
