Cantabria
Green hills, black Sun
Cantabria is preparing to offer one of the most beautiful postcards of the eclipse cycle: the perfect union between the sea, the mountains and the cosmos. The community will be one of the main stages for the Trio of Eclipses first big act, offering privileged visibility due to the fact that its horizon is facing northwards, towards the sea, which will play an important role.
12 August 2026 will be a historic date for the region. The totality will affect the entire autonomous community, plunging Cantabria into pitch darkness for approximately one to two minutes. The exceptional thing here will be the setting: seeing the sun's corona shining over the bay of Santander, one of the most beautiful in the world, or witnessing the arrival of the moon's shadow from the heights of the Picos de Europa and the Liébana region, where The majesty of the mountains will only enhance the visual experience of the phenomenon.
After this spectacular start, Cantabria will participate in the events of 2027 and 2028 as a luxury spectator of two partial eclipses. On 2 August 2027, the sun will look like a large waning crescent moon in the middle of a summer day. For its part, on 26 January 2028, although the annularity passes through the south, the Cantabrians will enjoy a winter sunset with the sun partially eclipsed sinking into the Cantabrian Sea, closing the cycle on a note of colour and serenity.
