Extremadura
Pristine skies for three partial eclipses
Extremadura, an international reference in stargazing tourism and a land of pristine skies, will experience the Trio of eclipses from the calm of its meadows and Roman monuments. Although the region will not be plunged in the total darkness of the 2026 eclipse, its privileged location and the absence of light pollution make it a magnificent setting to enjoy the annularity phase and deep partial eclipses against spectacularly clear skies.
On 12 August 2026, Extremadura will experience a very deep partial eclipse. At dusk, the Moon will hide most of the solar disk (over 90% in the north of the province of Cáceres), turning the Sun into a thin strip of light. Daylight will acquire a metallic hue and strange shadows will be cast. This phenomenon will be best watched from natural environments such as the Monfragüe National Park or the Tagus International National Park, where the unnatural twilight will turn nature into a magical landscape.
After experiencing another deep partial eclipse in 2027, the big moment for the region will come on 26 January 2028. On that day, the province of Badajoz will be the point of entrance for the "ring of fire". The path of annularity will cross the south of the region, allowing the towns such as Mérida, Almendralejo,Olivenza, Jerez de los Caballeros or Fregenal de la Sierra to enjoy an eclipse with perfect annularity. Seeing the ring of fire silhouetted against the meadows of the south or next to the great lake of Alqueva will be the crowning jewel to the eclipse cycle in Extremadura.
Summary of visibility
(Deep) Partial eclipse. The partial eclipse will be seen especially well in the north of the province of Cáceres. Although the eclipse will not be total, but the daylight dimming will be very significant.
Partial eclipse.
Annular eclipse. The main event. The strip crosses the south of the province of Badajoz, and has ideal visibility of the ring. The rest of the region (Cáceres and north of Badajoz) will experience a partial eclipse, although very deep.
