Mission Statement
Managing three consecutive major eclipses poses complex challenges in mobility, security and logistics. Therefore, our main task is to coordinate the action of the different public administrations in order to act jointly and proactively.
Our priority goals are:
- Science and education: Ensure the dissemination of accurate official information and promote interest in astronomy and space exploration.
- Health and safety: Plan civil protection arrangements, manage mass mobility of people and prevent public health risks during events.
- Tourism and Economy: Promote scientific tourism and boost local economies in the areas in which the eclipse is best seen.
A joint effort
lthough led by the Ministry of Science, the Commission integrates representatives from multiple key ministries (Transportation, Interior, Defence, Tourism, Education, Ecological Transition, among others) to provide a comprehensive response.
We also have the direct scientific advice of the country's leading astronomical institutions, including the National Astronomical Observatory, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía. We are also working in collaboration with the Scientific and Advisory Committee for the Trio of Eclipses.
